It was a great delight and fulfilment at Amada when on the 8th of December, 2016, 1000 youth were paraded in their Marshal Uniforms fully prepared to assume duty as security assistants for basic and secondary schools across the 11 Local Government Areas of the state.
This came on the heels of Gombe State Government’s effort to improve and address security challenges in the state due to the serious threats being experienced in the North-Eastern States vis-à-vis the education and school systems.
The programme was anchored by the Sustainable Development Goals-SDGs Gombe PSU through the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and the Ministry of Education. The trained 1000 youth as Education Marshalls are to serve as security assistants for all Government owned schools across the 11 LGAs of the state.
The Education Marshals went through a 2 weeks intensive training by the Nigerian Army, Police, Security and Civil Defence Corps, State Agency for Social Services, Sociology Department of Gombe State University amongst other stakeholders. The training featured courses on Mechanism for Security Control in Schools and Modus Operandi for Effective Surveillance, Emergency and Disaster Management, Leadership as well as Paramilitary Drills.
Gombe State Governor, Alh. Ibrahim Dankwambo PhD, OON (Talban of Gombe) through the Deputy Governor, Hon. Charles Iliya (JP) supported and applauded the programme which was meant to provide job opportunities to the youth as well as enhance security around schools’ environments.
Hearing their minds on the programme, some of the trainees commended the State Government, SDGs, Ministries of Youth Empowerment and Education as well as all other stakeholders for supporting and facilitating the training which has given them the opportunity to make their little contribution in providing security for our schools.
The widely applauded programme falls in line with the SDGs Goal 4 and 8; providing the needful services and facilities to ensure a sustainable quality education for all.
